Uncanny X-Men #27 Review

Things fall apart very fast for the X-Men in Uncanny X-Men #27 as they try to figure out how to control Matthew before he causes anymore harm than he already has. How Bendis has handled this story so far has been engaging when this is more than just about the dangers of what Matthew is capable of. The X-Men completing this final mission will decide the fate of the X-Men from here as it seems many of them will not walk out of this situation on the same side they were at first. The schism is far from over, though when more minds are opened to the conflict it creates fresh new perspectives that you might find necessary to the stories progression from here.

The scale of this issue is something which definitely catches your eye, in the same way it did when Dark Beast made his big move against the Jean Grey school. Bachalo knows how to capture the intensity of a moment and this was that time when Matthew shows both the X-Men and SHIELD what he is capable of when he displays even the slightest bit of control over his actions. It’s quite the view to see the Helicarrier crash into the Earth with such destruction lying in its wake. After that you just have to enjoy the grim atmosphere surrounding Matthew and especially when he’s toying with his powers.

Uncanny X-Men #27 is a solid issue for the focus on Cyclops and Mathew even though you might feel that some important things were rushed over. It is also important to make sure that this doesn’t drag on too much, though when we as readers want to see points struck about the schism, those would be the times to deliver on it. Aside from this Cyclops has done what would have been considered impossible, and the next issue will tell if that was the right move.
